credithirecompany.co.ukThe UK credit hire directory

Find the right replacement vehicle — and the company behind it.

Look a firm up by name, by where it says it delivers, or by the sort of vehicle you need — and see exactly what we can and cannot confirm about it before you sign anything.

We are a directory, not a provider. We are not an insurer, we are not your insurer, and we do not hire out vehicles. Everything here comes from public sources, and every field says where it came from and when we last checked it.

What this directory can and cannot tell you

We last went back to the sources on . There are 252 fields across the 28 listings, and this is honestly how they stand:

43 verified
checked against a named independent register, with the date we checked it
100 provider-claimed
the firm’s own words, or its trade body’s listing, repeated here as a claim and nothing more
2 need rechecking
the source we cited no longer backs up what the record says
107 not available
nobody publishes it, so we hold nothing

Three things follow from that, and they are worth knowing before you read a single listing. Eight of the 28 firms have a Companies House record matched and rechecked; the other 20 do not. Not one firm publishes a process summary or a sourced review profile, which is why no listing here carries a score. And when we rechecked the Credit Hire Organisation members directory on 02/09/2026 it held 47 entries, of which we hold records for 27 — most of the rest are solicitors, suppliers and trade bodies rather than hire operators, and none of them goes in until there is a sourced and dated record to put there.

Because most fields hold nothing sourced, we do not score, rank or pick between firms. You cannot turn an incomplete record into a rating without inventing the missing part, so we do not try. The order is alphabetical everywhere, and it means nothing beyond the alphabet. How each state is decided.

Where are you in this?

Three different jobs, three different answers. The first one is first for a reason — if a company is already handling your vehicle then the choosing is behind you, and you need something else from this site.

Every route on this page stays on this site. We do not arrange hire, we do not take your details and we do not act for you — and we cannot take enquiries yet. How entries are checked.

Not everybody needs the same car.

These categories are simply a way into the directory. The photographs show what each class of vehicle looks like — they are not evidence of what any listed firm keeps on its own fleet.

The right questions get you further than a headline score.

  1. Vehicle fit

Can the firm show you a suitable replacement for the vehicle you actually drive, and the use you actually put it to?

  2. Agreement clarity

Ask who pays, what exactly you are signing, and what happens if the charges are later disputed.

  3. Claims support

Check where they deliver, how repairs are handled, what they will need from you, and who is actually looking after your case.

Which credit hire company should I use?

We do not recommend a particular firm. What we can do is narrow it down: use a firm that delivers where you live, runs the sort of vehicle you actually drive, and gives you answers you can check at source. The guide sets out what to look at and in what order — how to choose a credit hire company — and you can put up to four firms side by side on the same fields with the comparison tool.

How many credit hire companies are there in the UK?

There is no single official register of UK credit hire operators, and we do not have a verified national total. We list 28, put together from the Credit Hire Organisation members directory, Companies House and firms’ own published information, collected 07/08/2026. Trade-body membership is the closest public proxy there is, and we add firms from outside it as we identify them.

Are credit hire companies regulated?

Not in the way most people assume. There is no single regulator for credit hire itself: many of these agreements are written so as to fall outside FCA consumer-credit regulation, while some firms do hold FCA permissions for related work such as insurance distribution. Every listing shows what we hold for Companies House and the FCA, and links the record where we have found one, so you can go and look for yourself. What to make of it is covered in how to choose a credit hire company.

How is a credit hire company different from my insurer?

Your insurer covers you under the policy you pay for. A credit hire company supplies you with a replacement vehicle on credit and then goes after the at-fault driver’s insurer for its charges. Those are different relationships with different consequences, and this directory is about choosing between the firms rather than about the mechanics of the claim.
