How we verify credit hire company listings

1. What gets a firm listed

A firm is listed when public sources show it operating as a UK credit hire or accident management provider. The seed dataset (compiled 07/08/2026) draws on the Credit Hire Organisation members directory↗ (opens external site), Companies House, and firms’ own published information; listing is free, no firm can pay to be added or removed, and firms outside the trade body are added as they are identified.

2. Field verification states

Every field on every listing carries one of four states, and the state is printed next to the field itself — not buried in a note at the bottom. Each state is shown as a word and a mark, so it never depends on colour:

• Verified — confirmed against a named independent register (such as Companies House), with the check date shown. Only an independent source earns this state; a firm confirming its own description does not.
• Provider-claimed — the firm’s own published description, or its trade body’s listing of it, republished here and marked as a claim. Trade-body membership is that body’s own record, so it verifies membership and nothing else.
• Needs recheck — the source cited for the field no longer supports what the record says, or the record has passed the recheck interval in section 4. The field is left visible in its stale state and labelled, rather than quietly deleted or quietly refreshed.
• Not available — no public source publishes the field. It is shown as unavailable rather than filled in. A blank is a data state, not a criticism of the firm, and a firm will be able to evidence any field once the corrections route described at /about/ is published.

A single field can hold more than one kind of evidence — a registered office confirmed at Companies House alongside a telephone number nobody publishes. Where that happens the field takes the state of its strongest evidence, and the “Where each field comes from” panel on the listing names the parts that hold no sourced value. A partly-sourced field is never displayed as a wholly verified one.

Every listing also shows a count of its four states. That count is a description of what has been sourced. It is not a rating, a ranking or a recommendation, and it is never averaged into one.

3. Review-signal rules

A review signal is published only when it has a score, review count, named platform, collection date and direct source link. Scores are never blended across platforms. No review score is published on this site at present.

4. Rechecking, and when a record goes stale

Records are compiled on a date and rechecked against the same named sources afterwards. Both dates are shown on the listing: the date the record was compiled, and the date its sources were last rechecked. A field is marked needs recheck when the cited source no longer supports it, or when more than 90 days have passed since its last successful recheck.

A recheck covers every record that cites a given source, not a sample of them. Where a source cannot be reached on the recheck date, that is recorded as an unavailable check rather than treated as confirmation, and the field keeps the date it was last actually confirmed.

The last full recheck was 02/09/2026. It covered all eight Companies House records cited by this directory — every one still active, with registered names and offices matching what is published here — and the full Credit Hire Organisation members directory, which still lists all 27 firms whose entries cite it. It found one field whose source no longer supports the record: the website held for 4th Dimension Innovation now publishes a different company, and that field is marked accordingly rather than corrected by guesswork. It also found that the trade body now lists 47 member entries against the 27 this directory holds records for; the gap is disclosed rather than filled, because a record is only added once it has its own sourced and dated fields.

5. Ordering

The default order everywhere on this site is alphabetical. Inclusion, ordering and field content do not represent endorsement, ownership, partnership or a commercial relationship.

6. What a score cannot tell you

A review score summarises the experiences of people who chose to write reviews on one platform in one period — it cannot tell you whether a firm delivers to your postcode, runs your vehicle type, or how it will handle your specific claim.
